House Arrest / Electronic Monitoring
Program |
Goals:
To provide community-based sanctions through house arrest/electronic
monitoring (24 hours per day, 7 days per week) as an
effective means of protecting the public against crime;
and overcrowding of the juvenile detention and parish
jails.
Objectives:
- Reduce the recidivism rate or repeat offenders by
one-third.
- Increase public safety.
- To provide an alternative to incarceration of non-violent
offenders.
- Keep prison and juvenile detention beds free for
more violent offenders.
- Keep violent offenders off the streets at night.
- Permit nonviolent offenders an opportunity to remain
employed.
- To reduce overcrowding of the juvenile detention
center.
- Allow law enforcement officials and parents to more
closely monitor juvenile activities.
- Provide electronic surveillance and appropriate
treatment where necessary to reduce recidivism.
